Family Medicine Specialist

Nevena Todorović, M.D., Ph.D., Asst. Prof., Family Medicine Specialist, is the director of the primary healthcare center "Dom zdravlja" in Banja Luka and an assistant professor at the Department of Family Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Banja Luka.

Nevena Todorović (daughter of Kojo Dobrijević) was born on April 1, 1973, in Sanski Most, where she also attended her primary education and the secondary Medical School she completed in Banja Luka. In the year 2000, Dr. Todorovic graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Banja Luka. She has been employed at Banja Luka’s "Dom zdravlja" public health center since 2000. As a doctor of medicine, she worked for four years in the Department of Health Protection for Children and Youth before completing her specialization in family medicine in November 2007. The following year, she was appointed to the position of head of the Family Medicine Service for nine months. From October 2008 to June 2019, Dr. Todorović worked as assistant director for medical affairs. From June through September 2019, Dr. Todorović held the position of acting director of the primary healthcare center "Dom zdravlja" in Banja Luka prior to being appointed to her current position as director, which she is continuing as of today.


In November 2012, she defended her master's thesis on the topic "The Quality of Life of Patients with Allergic Rhinitis Treated by a Family Doctor" at the University of Banja Luka's Faculty of Medicine. By the decision of the Teaching Scientific Council of the Faculty of Medicine in Banja Luka in 2006, Dr. Todorović was chosen as a teaching fellow in the Family Medicine course. She was appointed senior teaching fellow at the University of Banja Luka's Faculty of Medicine in 2014 and was re-appointed senior teaching fellow in 2019 for the narrow scientific field of Family Medicine.

In 2015, the Scientific Council of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Belgrade approved her preparation of a doctoral dissertation on the topic of "The Assessment of Health Literacy of the Adult Population Registered with Family Medicine Doctors in the Republic of Srpska", and in July 2019, she defended her doctoral dissertation and obtained the title of Doctor of Medical Sciences. Dr. Todorović was appointed assistant professor at the Department of Family Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Banja Luka, in June 2020.


Dr. Todorović actively engaged in the performance of the "Leonardo" and "Assessment" courses in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which represent the education of educators in family medicine and were designed by the EURACT Council. From 2007 to 2010, she was a presenter in the Program of Additional Education (PAT-Program of Additional Training) in family medicine for doctors and nurses/technicians.

As part of the Health Sector Strengthening Project, she has been involved in numerous projects implemented by the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare of the Republic of Srpska. She participated as an educator in the education of managers of primary healthcare institutions on the topic "Organizational Management in Health Institutions". She has attended numerous national and international professional events and has had various publications published in international periodicals and anthologies.

Since 2006, Dr. Todorović has been a member of the European Academy of Family Medicine Teachers (EURACT, European Academy of Family Medicine Teachers). She has also been a member of the World Association of Family Medicine Doctors (WONCA, World Family Doctors Caring for People), the Chamber of Medical Doctors of the Republic of Srpska, the Association of Medical Doctors of the Republic of Srpska, and an honorary member of the Association of Teachers of General/Family Medicine (DNOOM), the Republic of Croatia.

As an active member of the Chamber of Medical Doctors of the Republic of Srpska, she was appointed as a member of the Commission for Determining the Prices of Health Services and Contracting them with the Health Insurance Fund of the Republic of Srpska, as well as a member of the Commission for Determining the Plan of Networks of Health Institutions. In 2013, the Chamber of Medical Doctors of the Republic of Srpska awarded Dr. Todorović the Charter for the Organization of the Health Service.


The Association of Family Physicians of the Republic of Srpska honored her in 2020 with a Certificate of Recognition for her contribution to the successful management of the Republic of Srpska's largest healthcare organization at the primary level of care, the primary healthcare center "Dom zdravlja" in Banja Luka, during the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as the affirmation of the tenets and principles of family medicine in its functioning.


In 2023, the City Assembly of Banja Luka presented Dr. Todorović with the "Golden Coat of Arms of the City of Banja Luka" award for her exceptional contribution to the development of the city, fostering relations with other cities, achieving top results and successes in the fields of economy, science and culture, art, and sports, with an accent on exceptional merit and contribution in organizing, implementing, and providing medical assistance and saving human lives at the primary level of health care in the city of Banja Luka, as well as any other forms of support and the heroic efforts in the fight against the "Covid-19" pandemic.


Since 2016, Nevena Todorović, M.D., Ph.D., Asst. Prof. was elected to two consecutive terms as a councilor in the City Assembly of Banja Luka.


Dr. Todorović is married and the mother of two children.
